Routine Account Maintenance
- Managing Storage Space: Gmail offers 15 GB of free storage shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. Regularly check your storage usage by visiting Google’s storage management page and delete unnecessary files or emails to free up space.
- Cleaning Up Your Inbox: Periodically delete old or irrelevant emails, empty your trash folder, and archive emails that you want to keep but don’t need in your inbox. Use Gmail’s search function to quickly locate emails that can be cleaned up.

Enhancing Security
- Recognizing Phishing Scams: Be cautious of emails asking for personal information or directing you to unknown websites. Gmail’s spam filter does a good job of identifying phishing emails, but always double-check the sender’s email address and look out for suspicious links.
- Reviewing Account Activity and Connected Devices: Check for unusual activity in your account by clicking on “Details” at the bottom of your inbox to see the last account activity. You can also review devices connected to your Gmail account in your Google Account settings.
- Updating Recovery Information Regularly: Keep your recovery email address and phone number up to date to ensure you can recover your account if needed.
-
Recovering a Lost Gmail Account
- Steps to Recover a Forgotten Password: If you forget your Gmail password, click on “Forgot password?” on the sign-in page. You will be prompted to verify your identity through your recovery email or phone number. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.
- Recovering Access if Your Account is Compromised: If you believe your account has been hacked, go to Google’s Account Recovery page and follow the steps to secure your account and regain access.
